Much Ado About Nothing

Going out to give the goats some more hay, I heard the loudest, most cacaphononous catterwalling going on in the Coop de Villa.  Fearing the worst, I hurried into the chicken pen, flung open the coop doors, and saw all  four nesting boxes occupied.  The frantic noises were coming from Betty, our Barred Rock named for my mother.  She stood up to reveal a freshly laid egg the size of a peanut M&M!  From the sound she was making I had envisioned a snake attacking her or some other such catastrophe.

Meanwhile, Nick and Molly are getting HUGE!  They still think they're small, though, and try to stand on my back or get in my lap.  Nick is nearly 90 pounds and is way more than a lap-full. They are so sweet and affectionate.  I love to see them nuzzling each other.

The temps have droppped as has the humidity.  Stores are starting to put out Christmas decorationsand it's not quite Halloween.  I don't mind, of course.  I've been listening to Chriatmas music for weeks. It's been a real struggle for me to resist the urge to decorate the house!  I have started working on making Christmas presents.  Money will be more than tight this year, so home-made gifts will be given.  Of course, ingredients and materials cost money as does shipping.  I wonder if I could hook up Nick and Molly to a sleigh and hitch up the chickens as well?
