Back from the Brink

I apologize for not updating my blog for a while.  I spent last weekend in the ICU.  Apparently, I had been bleeding internally from an old suture line from an operation I had 7 years ago.  I had been fatigued, dizzy, was dropping things and had some cognitive deficits.  Given my medical history, I thought it had to do with my brain.  A CT showed no change from the previous one taken 2 years ago.  As I was busy with Field Day preparations, I put off searching for another cause for my symptoms.  On Friday, June 25th, I awoke at about 7:14 and went to the bathroom to empty my bladder.   As soon as I sat down, I became acutly dizzy and, I believe, had a seizure.  Just before passing out, I spewed about 2 pints of blood from my mouth(all over my favorite PJs, too!)  Sparrow had just left to run his Friday and Saturday errands and would have been gone for at least a couple of hours.  I caught him a mile from home.  He rushed back while I called 911.  I was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital where I was given 3 units of blood in the ER and then went to the OR for an upper endoscopy to find out where the bleed was.  They found it and fixed it.

I spent the next 2 days in the ICU and was given 2 more units of blood.  I was discharged Monday evening at around 7:30 pm.  Except for being EXTREMELY tired and sleepy, I feel better. The old brain is functioning more normally.  Now I just have to wait for the hospital bill, for which I have no insurance.
